The panel was comprised of:
Julia Crawford, journalist and Project Director, BBC World Service Trust
Jennifer Bakody, journalist and Project Manager, BBC World Service Trust
Franck Petit, journalist and Consultant for the International Center for Transitional Justice (ICTJ)

Comments from the panel
Franck said: “Very good radio report, showing the problems of returning to northern Uganda through the activities of an NGO. Good efforts at sound effects and linkage. This is a lively radio feature which can appeal to the general public, and for that reason I would give it the first prize.”
Jennifer said: “Sawa’s story on urban IDP women was lovely. The subject matter was relevant and their testimonies revealing. The piece touched on many issues – land ownership, fair distribution of power, forgiveness, post-conflict parenting, almost accidentally.
Julia said: This is an ambitious report with lots of voices and sound effects on a very relevant subject, which also makes the North-South link. It could have been a bit tighter, but otherwise a great effort!

The runner-up was BILL OKETCH of IWPR, for his report about the effects of corruption on rebuilding in the north. Click here to read Bill Oketch's report

Other short-listed entries, in no particular order, were:

Julian Amutuhaire: ICC faces widespread criticism.

Gloria Aciro Laker: Land disputes threaten IDP resettlement in Acholi.

Joe Wacha: Church joins efforts to heal victims of LRA war

“Short-listing stories was not easy, since the general standard was high,” says Project Director Julia Crawford. “I would like to congratulate our winner, Pius Sawa above all. But I also extend my congratulations to all the journalists who made the short-list and all those who submitted stories. Please keep sending us your reports to enrich our web site -- and there will be more prizes to be won!”
