The Prosecutor of the Special Court for Sierra Leone, Stephen Rapp, has been holding talks in Monrovia, ahead of the restart of Charles Taylor’s trial due January 7 in The Hague. The former Liberian president faces eleven counts of war crimes and crimes against humanity for allegedly fuelling the civil war in neighbouring Sierra Leone. He has pleaded not guilty, and expressed fears that the trial will not be fair.
At a press conference in Monrovia on December 12, Mr. Rapp told reporters his visit was part of the court’s efforts to reach out to Liberians.
